CAN YOU NOT...

As I was scrolling through the daily gossip I saw a story about Jennifer Lawrence and some video of her drunkly dancing on a stripper pole and I went to check it out. There wasn't anything scandalous just some drunk idiot making an ass out of themselves just like every other drunk idiot most of us have the misfortune of coming across whenever we venture out at night. The video was nothing but mildly embarrassing at best but then I noticed that the person writing the story decided to defend Jennifer by using the go to phrase when white people get caught being morons...

"Everyone's done that before."

My immediate response was...

Listen I'm not saying we have to burn Jennifer or anyone at the steak for getting caught doing dumb shit but for the love of all things holy can we please stop talking about this shit as if it's completely normal.

Yeah a lot of people get drunk and act dumb that doesn't make it a universal experience and I wish people would stop making it like it is. They did the same thing during the whole naked picture scandal making it as if everyone was walking around with a treasure trove of nudes on their phones. And it isn't just that, it's using the boys will be boys excuse for Ryan Locate or saying Kristen Stewart was too young to understand banging a married dude was wrong. It's every damn excuse people come up with whenever some young white celebrity does something in an attempt to lessen or take the focus off what they did. Seriously just let them take the L.

The only universal truth is we all f**k up from time to time and because of that we should be a little more understanding when other people do, but that doesn't mean we have to normalize their actions. There is a way to be empathetic without making it like everyone does this. In saying that you tell people who don't behave in that way that they are abnormal and for the ones that find themselves in situations where people are pushing them to do things they aren't comfortable with you add on yet another layer of pressure to conform.

I've never drunkenly crawled on the floor, dry humped randoms, danced (badly) on a stripper pole, and had to be carried to me table, but that doesn't mean I hate people who do. What I hate is when you look at that person and proclaim 'we've all been there right' because no bitch WE have not. Please don't try to make you stupid designs look better by making them all of our stupid decisions and next time you feel the need to do that all I ask is...

Can you not?
